Type A286 Stainless Steel is an iron base superalloy useful for
applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to
1300 °F (704 °C) and for lower stress applications at higher
temperatures. The alloy is also used for low temperature
applications requiring a ductile, non-magnetic high strength
material at temperatures ranging from above room temperature down
to at least -320 °F (-196 °C). Although A286 alloy is harder than
other stainless steels, it can be cold drawn and formed.
One of the advantages of A286 is that it can be precipitation
hardened and strengthened by heat treatments. This makes possible a
high degree of uniformity in developing maximum strength
characteristics, which can be easily duplicated in manufacturing.
A286 is an ideal metal alloy for cold rolling because it can be
work-hardened rapidly.
A-286 is an age-hardenable iron base superalloy for applications
requiring high strength from -320°F up to 1000°F long time,
1300-1500°F short time. Oxidation resistance is high for continuous
service to 1500°F, intermittent to 1800°F. Aqueous corrosion
resistance is comparable to 316/L stainless.
